University - Salzburg

The university of Salzburg was founded in 1622 by Prince Paris Lodron, and has four faculties, Catholic theology, law, humanities and natural sciences. Today it is the biggest educational institution in Salzburg, however its history has not always been easy, and when Austria was annexed by Bavaria it was downgraded to a ""lyzeum"" (the equivalent to a polytechnic), and its university status was not restored for another 150 years. It has no specific campus, and its buildings can be found scattered across the city, including in parts of the Residenz.
