The Felsenreitschule - Salzburg

The Felsenreitschule was built in the 17th century on the site where the stone for the cathedral was quarried. Originally it was used for animal baiting and riding displays, and the public could view these from the three tiers of seating. Nowadays it has been transformed into a theatre, and is one of the great venues for the Salzburg Summer Festival. The venue has undergone a renovation, and now boasts a 40m² stage, as well as a new seating area for spectators, and a new rain proof roof covering, which is often opened on balmy summer evenings for an open air performance!
