Statues by Cellini and Giambologna beneath the Loggia dei Lanzi - Florence

The Loggia dei Lanzi is home to a small museum of sculpture whose collection includes two masterpieces of Mannerist Art. There's Cellini's magnificent ""Perseus beheading Medusa"", dating from 1547, and ""The Rape of the Sabine Women"" completed by Giambologna in 1583. The characteristic features of Mannerism will spring out at you: the search for aesthetics over subject matter, and a degree of eroticism.
