Statue of Cosimo I - Florence

Cosimo I de Medici established a centralised monarchical state, abolishing the Republic and with it, all semblance of democracy. In doing so, he brought true economic prosperity to Florence and its region. His youngest son erected this statue in the Piazza della Signoria, having commissioned Giambologna to carry out the work. He succeeded in casting horse and man in one single piece of bronze.
