St Andrew's Church - Salzburg

St Andrew's Church was originally located at the Platzl, where Linzergasse meets Dreifaltigkeitsgasse, however it was torn down to make way for a wider road, and rebuilt in 1898. The new church was rebuilt in the Neo Gothic style by Josef Wessicken and city architect Jakob Ceconi. Unfortunately the church suffered severe damage during WWII, and had to be rebuilt once more. It was further restored during the 1960s and 70s to make the architecture of the building blend in better with the cityscape, shortening the towers and painting the exterior grey. Today there is a farmers market held outside the church every Thursday morning, where locals come to buy their meat and vegetables. This is a great way for tourists to really get under the skin of Salzburg, and find out what it is like to be a Salzburger!
