Pilgrims' Church of Maria Kirchental - Salzburg

The Maria Kirchental is situated in Loferer Steinberge, 900m high in the valley. It is one of the most important sanctuaries in the Salzburg area and each year thousands of pilgrims come from all over Austria and Bavaria to visit this site. The church itself was designed by eminent Baroque architect Fischer von Erlach and commissioned to be built by Archbishop Johann Ernst Graf von Thurn on the site where many miracles had been performed, and was completed in 1701. The left side altar in its brilliant color harmony (dated 1719 ) was one of the largest and best works of the Salzburg court painter Jacopo Zanusi .
