Piazzale Michelangelo - Florence

This square was built as part of a 19th century urban redevelopment. It serves both as a major traffic junction and a tribute to the great artist whose name it bears. It is dominated by the celebrated statue of David, facing towards the city of Florence. Of course it’s a reproduction as the original is on display in the Galleria dell'Accademia. At the sides of the monument you’ll recognise copies of the famous languid and sensual figures of Day and Night and Dawn and Dusk, which decorate the Medici tombs. The view from here is quite magnificent and gives you an overview of all the landmarks of Florence.
