Orsanmichele Church - Florence

Orsanmichele is the church of the guilds of the city of Florence. This explains the statues that adorn the exterior, since each of the figures in the alcoves is a patron saint of one of the medieval corporations. As well as a reference to the town's economy, the church also serves as an open air museum of Florentine sculpture from the 14th to 16th centuries. Some of the statues are by Donatello and there are others by Ghiberti. The interior of the church has been turned into a museum to display the originals of these statues. One useful tip is that the Orsanmichele Church has a kiosk where you can purchase tickets for the Uffizi, allowing you to avoid the queues in high season.
