National Opera House - Budapest

The Budapest Opera House is one of the most beautiful opera houses in the world. It was built in 1884 by architect Miklós Ybl and opened to the public on the 27th of September of the same year. Although it is not the largest opera house in the world, it is considered to be among the most beautiful. It is a richly-decorated building and is considered one of the architect's masterpieces. It was built in neo-Renaissance style, with elements of baroque. Ornamentation includes paintings and sculptures by leading figures of Hungarian art of the time including Bertalan Székely, Mór Than and Károly Lotz. Its acoustics are bettered only by the La Scala in Milan and the Palais Garnier in Paris. Aside from operas, it is also home to the National Hungarian Ballet.
