History of Art Museum - Vienna

The Kunsthistorische Museum-or Museum of Historical Arts, was built in 1891 to house the vast Imperial collection, and it is a highly important collection of art, bringing together many impressive masterpieces, including the immense Brueghel collection. In the Gemäldegalerie, the painting gallery, you will find masterpieces such as Madonna in the Meadow, by Raffaello Sanzio, who is better known as Raphael, or Vermeer’s ‘Allegory’, as well as works by Rubens, Rembrandt, Durer, Titian and Tintoretto. In the Kunstkammer, you can admire the Hapsburg rarities, including a collection of Egyptian and Oriental antiques, which highlights the richness of mysterious ancient cultures. What’s more, the Museum of Historical Arts offers not only pleasure for the eyes, but also the taste buds, as you can combine a tour of the museum with a delicious brunch, or an exclusive evening buffet!


Open Tuesday to Sunday 10am-18pm, Thursdays until 9pm. During July and August the museum is also open on Mondays
