Griesgasse - Salzburg

Griesgasse, when roughly translated means ""rubble street"", and this refers to the debris that was left behind after the river Salzach repeatedly flooded this area before flood defences were put into place. Today there is a mixture of cultural sights and material pleasures to be found on this street. At number 8 you can find the Doppler house, whilst number 11 was a former poorhouse. Today it is home to the fish and meat markets, but still links the several important parts of the city.
