Fratelli Alinari - Florence

Alinari is one of Italy’s biggest names in photography. It all started in 1852 with a printing works, and today the gallery produces photographs using a variety of different methods. This means that you can choose your favourite from amongst over 3,500,000 original photos. These archives illustrate different aspects of daily life from the 19th and 20th centuries, including industrialisation, to give just one example. What’s more, the archives house a museum dedicated to ‘the image’, with exhibits on different printing and photography techniques, as well as on the development of the presentation of images.
