Fontainebleau forest - Fontainebleau

The forest of Fontainebleau, 25,000 hectares big, is one of the most remarkable French biologic, aesthetic, geologic heritage because of its history, situation and diversity.

From the XIIth century to the XVIIth century, it was a royal property shaped by several monarchs for their hunts but also for leisure such as walking.

In the XIXème siècle, it was opened to the public and made happy a great number of people like the Barbizon movement's artists, naturalists and walkers. There you can find mushrooms, flowers, algae, deers, boars, squirells, harriers, beetles and butterflies of all kinds. It is a lively universe we must respect while walking, riding the paths. There are also many rocks onto which climbing lovers practise.
