Ferstel Palace - Vienna

The Ferstel Palace is named after the architect who built it- Heinrich von Ferstel. The architecture is strongly influenced by his long stay in Italy (1856-1860) and Trecento architecture, as found in Venice and Florence. It is one of the most splendid and architecturally interesting buildings in the Gründerzeit. The beautiful façade is decorated with a lovely balcony and stone statues. For a while, Ferstel Palace was the headquarters of the Austrian Stock Exchange and the National Austro-Hungarian bank. The famous Café Central can be found on the square of the building, with its lovely sunroof. In the arcade you will find antiques shops, jewellers, furniture shops and the famous Xocolat chocolate shop.
