Equitable Palace - Vienna


Equitable New York life insurance built this beautiful building at the end of the 19th century, and even today the Equitable palace is one of the most impressive buildings in Vienna. It is one of the rare palaces that has never been lived in by a member of the nobility. The façade is very beautiful and the roof is decorated with an American eagle- in keeping with the Equitable’s heritage. The bronze reliefs on the portal depict the myth of “Stock im Eisen” and were built by Rudolf Weyr. The interior of the building is also very impressive, the magnificent staircases hall were built using Hallein marble and Saxon granite. The interior courtyard is decorated with tiles and majolica, and the fresco on the ceiling of the vestibule and stucco work was done by Julius Victor Berger.
