Ciutadella Park - Barcelona
The citadel was built in the early 18th century by Philip V to control Barcelona and the troublesome Catalans. Demolished at the end of the 19th century, the land was given over to 75 acres of public gardens which were used during the Universal Exhibition of 1888. There are a number of interesting sculptures and fountains including the one at the centre, on which a young and up-and-coming Gaudi worked.
