Church of Saint Anne - Bruges

It would be fair to say that, from the outside at least, the 17th century Saint Anne’s Church does little to capture the attention of the passing visitor. The interior, however, is a different story altogether. You will be amazed by the sheer richness of the baroque furnishings, including stunning confessionals, Church tabernacles, rood screens and pulpits. These are the tools with which the Catholic Church fought against Protestantism during the Counter Reformation. On your way out, look up above the door, where you will see a large mural, spanning 100 square metres, or 330 square feet, painted by Nedrik Herregouts in 1685. It depicts the Last Judgement, and served to remind the congregation upon leaving the church that they should remain faithful to the promises they had made in prayer.
