Cathedral Baptistery - Florence

Located opposite the cathedral, The Baptistery of Saint John the Baptist is a large octagonal building with a green and white marble roof. It's known in particular for the engravings on its three monumental bronze doors. Seen as ground breaking in their day , the engravings were to become a point of reference in the Art world. There is a gap of seventy and then fifty years between each of the three doors, and the different styles take us through the transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. They are the work of Andrea Pisano, who was inspired by the painted panels of first Giotto, and then Lorenzo Ghiberti.
