Cathedral and Diocesan Museum - Vienna

The Museum of the Cathedral and Diocesan was built in 1933 and is one of the ‘jewels’ of the museums in Vienna. Here you will find a large collection of art spanning more than 1000 years, with emphasis on artwork depicting the St Stephen Cathedral and the other churches in Vienna and Lower Austria. The greatest treasure is a portrait of Duke Rudolph IV of Austria from the 14th century, which is alleged to be the oldest portrait in the western world. The museum is especially well known for its beautiful collection of Gothic statues from St Stephen’s Cathedral. It is not to be missed!
