Burial Museum - Vienna

In the Bestattungsmuseum, the burial museum you can look at the “Pompfünberer” and the “schöne Leich” (beautiful cadaver). You can see the juxtaposition of Baroque opulence in death with some frugal oddities, including the “Klappsarg”, the folding coffin on Emperor Joseph II, which had a folding bottom and could be reused! With more than 1000 pieces on display, the Bestattungsmuseum gives a comprehensive overview of funeral services, burial rituals and the special relationship between the Viennese and death.
