Boboli garden - Florence

This magnificient garden is located behind the Palazzo Pitti and near the Porta Romana. Built at the time of Cosimo I de Medici, it was enriched until the XVIIIth century by the successors of the Medicis and by the Lorenas. The site is fascinating with its paths, its edifices and its sophisticated vegetal elements. The first garden project was conceived by Nicolò Pericoli, also known as il Tribolo. Later, took part to the project Giorgio Vasari, Bartolomeo Ammananti, author of the palace's cortile, and Bernardo Buontalenti. The garden has a regular and geometrical layout full of trees, decorated platforms, sculptures, fountains and artificial caverns. The Grotta Grande, a magnificient example of manneristic architecture, was made by Buontalenti. Built in 1593, its creates a very pleasant atmosphere. Its quarry was changed into a green amphitheatre. Within the Palazzina del Cavaliere, in the middle of the Rose Garden, is the Porcelain Museum.The Gallery of Costuùe is in the Palazzina della Meridiana, built during the Lorena era.
