Ankeruhr - Vienna

The Ankeruhr is a large musical clock that sits on a little bridge that connects parts of the Helvetia insurance building with Hoher Markt square. The idea for the clock came from Art Deco painter Franz von Matsch, who also built it in 1914. Over the course of twelve hours, twelve figures, or pairs of figures from the history of Vienna cross the little bridge. At midday, they all parade together, accompanied by music. During Advent, at 5pm and 6pm, you can come to listen to Christmas carols. The Ankeruhr is one of the best works of the Art Deco era, and a favourite with tourists.
