Alte Backstube - Vienna

In an old Baroque building, built in 1697, you will find the Alte Backstube, a bakery, café-restaurant and a bakery museum all in one! After the closure of one of the oldest bakeries in Vienna (which dated from 1701) it was transformed into a museum. Here you will find exhibitions displaying bakery equipment from the last three centuries, and plenty of drawings and paintings which explain the art of bakery. Do not miss the original oven, which dates to 1701! It has changed very little over the centuries, and it doesn’t feel at all like a museum, in fact you will find yourself expecting to see the master baker and his apprentice around every corner! Do not miss the opportunity to try some excellent Viennese cuisine (which is of course made to traditional recipes) accompanied by delicious wines and beers in the lovely candlelit atmosphere!
