Alcazar Gardens - Seville

The Alcazar Gardens extend over 17 acres and offer a harmonious blend of mudejar and European influences. They contain a number of mosaics, a geometrically laid-out maze, an English-style garden and some magnificent fountains. The oldest gardens are the ones next to the palace and most of them date back to the Renaissance, even though some have retained an Arab-Andalusian pattern. The gardens are quadrangular, divided into 4 equally quadrangular sections by means of paths or little canals. They evoke the Garden of Eden and its 4 rivers, which derive their source from the central fountain.
