Villa Farnesina - Rome

The Villa Farnesina was built on the lower slopes of the Janiculum opposite the Palazzo Corsini at the very beginning of the 16th century by Baldassare Peruzzi. It was commissioned by a Sienese banker called Agostino Chigi. The villa is richly decorated with frescos by Raphael, including the notable Triumph of Galatea in the loggia of the same name. There are also works by one of Raphael's prominent pupils, Giulio Romano.
