Versailles - Paris


The town of Versailles was the capital of the kingdom of France from 1686 to 1789, from the time that the Sun King decided to make the château the largest and most sumptuous palace in Europe. The town was set out around the château: the three principal avenues converging on the royal residence. Single storey houses were obligatory in order not to exceed the height of the château.
The Saint-Louis cathedral is a fine example of Classical architecture. The King's vegetable garden enables one to learn what Louis XIV ate. So, dive into the "Great Century"...
