Trajan Forum - Roma

The emperor Trajan, after taking the succession of Nerva in 98, charged Appollodorus of Damascus of building the forum. The Forum of Trajan was inaugurated in 113 and comprised more than a hundred shops, warehouses, halls, taverns, terraces and even a library. There is of course Trajan's Column, 40 metre high, ericted to commemorate his victory over the Dacians (who lived in modern Romania). Some parts of the area are closed for restoration.
