Titus arch - Roma

The famous Titus arch, dedicated by Domitian to his brother Titus and his father Vespasian, celebrates their victory in Judea in 71 and the destruction of Jerusalem. The scenes of the events are depicted on two great panels inside the arch, one showing the cortege who plundered the temple bearing the famous seven arm candelabrum and the other victorious Titus crowned by the goddess Rome. Deified Titus is also represented on the coffered vault. It is said that some Jews avoided going under the arch because it celebrated some grim part of their history.
