Tempietto of San Pietro in Montorio - Rome

Built by Bramante at the very beginning of the 16th century, the Tempietto of San Pietro in Montorio is situated in the cloister of the Church of San Pietro in Montorio marking the spot where Saint Peter is thought to have been crucified. It is a round building surrounded by a Doric colonnade. Despite its small dimensions, (8 metres in diameter by 13 metres high), it is a quite remarkable example of High Renaissance architecture, commissioned by the Catholic Kings, Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile.
