Senate Palace - Rome

Now home to the Roman city hall, the Palazzo Senatorio dates back to the 13th century and stands upon the Tabularium which once housed the Ancient Roman archives. Its double ramp of stairs was designed by Michelangelo and its current facade by Giacomo della Porta and Girolamo Rainaldi. The fountain in front of Michelangelo’s staircase features the river gods of the Tiber, the Nile and Minerva.
