Santa Maria degli Angeli - Rome

The Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli occupies part of the ancient Baths of Diocletian. The church was built by Michelangelo but subsequent modifications over the centuries mean that few original features are still in place, with the exception of the vaulted ceiling. Nevertheless, the structure still gives us a good idea of the architecture of what originally had been the principal hall and the tepidarium (or warm rooms) of the Public Baths. It is possible to take the stairs by the sacristy to the upper floor. This church is an excellent and original example of the re-use of architectural features.
