Saint Peter's Church - Munich

The Church of Saint Peter is the favourite place of worship of the Munich people as it is the oldest church of the city, even if it has been renovated on numerous occasions. From the outside you'll note its rectangular tower, completed in 1621, with its rounded green copper roof topped with a sort of obelisk. However it is the interior built by Zimmermann, one of the most famous architects and fresco painters of Bavarian Rococo, that is full of surprises. The walls are painted white and the multi-coloured painted and sculpted decorations are essentially concentrated on the ceiling and the upper parts of the walls, which naturally draws our gaze upwards. The centre of the vaults are also decorated with large frescos. At the far end of the nave the choir is dominated by an enormous gilded and richly sculpted high altar.
