Rome Opera House - Rome

The Teatro dell’Opera (in English: Rome Opera House) was built in 1879 by Domenico Costanzi. When it was bought by the Roman government, it was renamed and a part of the building was redesigned by architect Marcello Piacentini. The Teatro dell’Opera can seat over 2000 people and has attracted some of opera’s greatest stars including: Maria Callas, Renata Tebaldi, Montserrat Caballé, Marylin Horne, Erich Kleiber, Klemperer, Toscanini, De Sabata, Marinuzz and many others. The décor is luxurious and sophisticated and the frescos painted by Annibale Brugnoli. Even if you haven’t come to see a show, the building itself is extremely impressive and can be visited throughout the day.
