The Roman theatre was founded by Roman settlers in the first century B.C. It is a vast semicircular amphitheatre with an enormous scaenae frons (stage background). The theatre could accommodate up to 2000 theatre-goers and the structure is notable for its large raised stage. Today the Roman Theatre plays host to various cultural festivals.
