Roman forum - Roma

The forum, the centre of public life in ancient Rome during the VIIth century, was built on a swamp between the Capitoline and the Palatine hills. There were monuments dedicated to political, religious and commercial life. With the increasing of the Roman population, another forum was built by Julius Caesar in 46 B.C.. The following emperors did the same, hence the presence of some triumphal arches in theur hnour. It fell into ruin in the Middle Ages before being rediscovered in the XVIIIth century. The Via Sacra, way of many religious processions towards the Capitol, goes through it.
