Pyramid of Cestius - Rome

This 37 metre high pyramid with a base of 29 metres is in fact the tomb of a magistrate, Gaius Cestius, who was buried in 12 BC. The Pyramid of Cestius is probably one of the most striking reminders that Rome had conquered Egypt in 30 BC and was rapidly influenced by the architecture of the land of the Pharaohs. In the 3rd century AD the pyramid was incorporated into the 11 mile long Aurelian Wall built in the 270s.
