Piazza d'Aracoeli - Rome

At the bottom of the Capitoline Hill, you will find the Piazza d’Aracoeli, where you can see what remains of the only Roman insula left in the capital. In Ancient Roman times, lower (Plebs) and middle (Equates) class citizens dwelled in insulae, which were large apartment buildings, whereby the ground floor functioned as a shop, taberna or business and the upper two floors were used as living space.
