Largo di Torre Argentina - Rome

Largo di Torre Argentina is a great archaeological site in the heart of the Campus Martius. Inside its walled perimeters, you will find the remains of four ancient Roman temples. Incidentally, they are among the oldest the city as all were constructed during the third and second centuries BC. This site explains the political and sacred role played by the Champ de Mars in the Republican era. The square is also home to the famous Teatro Argentina, an 18th century opera house and theatre, in which many premieres of famous operas took place, including Rossini’s The Barber of Seville.
