Fundation Joan Miro - Barcelona

The Joan Miro foundation was created on the initiative of the painter in order to show to the general public his works and spread contemporaneous artistic leanings. Located on the Montjuïc slopes, the foundation set up in premices built after plans of the architect José Luis Sert, one of the painter's friends. The architect took into account two fundamental elements, light and an optimized movement for the public. Thus, the building is organized around a courtyard making easier the visitor's movement and preventing people from stacking in front of a work. You will notice the clever dormer window system which prevents shade and reflection from altering works' appearance. This magnificient place houses some parts of the singular universe of Miro: 10,000 works of art such as 217 paintings, 178 sculptures and 9 tapisseries and also many graphic works and drawings. The Joan Miro foundation receives each year several temporary exhibitions while paying particular attention to young artists. The institution also pays attention to children by offering them diverse activities.
