Forum of Caesar - Rome

The Forum of Caesar, conqueror of Gaul, was the first of the so called Imperial Forum, even though he never actually became Emperor. This vast rectangular space was one surrounded by columned porticos. In the centre we can see other columns on a raised stone platform. These are the remains of the temple dedicated to the goddess Venus, protectress of the Caesar family. In fact the family of Caesar believed they were the descendents of Venus, through the mythical hero Aeneas, one of the legendary founders of Rome.
