Church of the Holy Ghost - Munich

The Church of the Holy Ghost, by the Asam brothers - is a perfect illustration of what is Baroque, namely a style based on theatricality and movement. In this instance, all the Baroque ""devices"" are put to use on the façade to draw your gaze upwards towards heaven and therefore God. On the façade as in the interior, you will find these chubby little angels so typical of Baroque and this region. Once inside, you'll find the wealth of ornamentation of green, yellow and pink stucco work and the magnificent painted frescos quite simply staggering. The marble altar which dominates the choir is particularly impressive and stands out wonderfully against the tall windows that surround it. This lovely example of Baroque dramatic production is the work of the sculptor Nikolaus Gottfried Stuber.
