Church of the Gesù (Full Name: Church of the most Holy Name of Jesus) - Rome
The Church of the Gesù is the mother church of the Society of Jesus, who were responsible for stopping the fast spread of Protestantism. Financed by Cardinal Alessandro Farnese and inaugurated in 1582, the rigor and simplicity of the church’s lines actually hide an exuberant Baroque decoration, which must be the famous fresco by Andrea Pozzo. The Church of the Gesù was a revolution in how to build and decorate churches and served as the model for most Baroque churches.
