Church of San Lorenzo in Miranda - Rome

San Lorenzo in Miranda is a church dedicated to Saint Lawrence, the 3rd century Deacon and martyr. It is a rather unique church as it is located in the remains of the Temple of Antonius and Faustina, which explains its Classicalal columns and dedication to Antonius and Faustina on the architrave. Precisely when it was converted to a Christian church is unknown and although only attested from the 11th century, it is possible it could have been converted up to four centuries earlier. The church owes its name to the belief that this was the place where Saint Lawrence had been sentenced to death
