Bramante Tempietto - Roma

The tempietto is one of Bramante's first buildings in Rome. It was built in the early XVIth century and ordered by the King of Spain. It is located in the church of San Pietro in Montorio's yard. Of small size, it follows the model of circular temples dedicated to martyrs, inspired from the ancient tholos. The edifice was built on the Janiculum hill where it is said that Saint-Peter was crucified.

To see: the doric colonnade decorated with liturgic triglyphs and metopes, the balustrade above the the columns, topped by an hemispheric dome.
