Basilica di Santa Maria di Trastevere - Rome

The Basilica di Santa Maria di Trastevere was built in the 3th century and has been a privileged witness to the long history of the Church. It witnessed the 1st schism in 431 between the Christians of Rome and those of the East. Above all however, this very old Basilica is known for its mosaics dating from the 5th 12th and 13th centuries which constitute the very peak of mosaic work as well as providing us with a degree of perspective of this art form over the centuries.
