Basilica di Santa Croce in Gerusalemme - Rome

The Church of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme is located on the square of the same name, near the church of Saint John Lateran. This shrine was created in 320 by Saint Helena - the mother of Constantine - to welcome the relics of the Passion of Christ, including a piece of the Cross, that she brought back from Jerusalem. The church was rebuilt in the 12th century when the campanile was added. However the present day building is the result of 18th century modifications. Inside there is a series of 15th century frescos in the apse which recall the story of the cross and the other relics.
